Mayor Lori Lightfoot has chosen Studio Gang’s Gia Biagi to run the city’s Department of Transportation, describing her as an “ideal choice to lead our ambitious agenda for CDOT through the coming decade.”

Biagi is a “Principal of Urbanism & Civic Impact” at the architecture and urban design firm founded by architect Jeanne Gang. She has led master plans for national projects, including in Memphis, Tenn., and the industrial harbor, according to her Studio Gang bio. She is also president of NeighborSpace, a local nonprofit land trust.

79彩票注册网址Biagi fills the vacancy left by Emanuel CDOT Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld, who had worked for the Chicago Transit Authority previously. CDOT’s current acting commissioner, Tom Carney, will move back to his role as first deputy in the department.

79彩票注册网址Biagi has worked in Chicago city government before, holding various positions at the Chicago Park District, including as chief of staff to the CEO, and she also has worked in the Department of Planning & Development. At the park district she worked on Maggie Daley Park, Northerly Island and the 606/Bloomingdale Trail. Like Lightfoot, she is a University of Michigan graduate.

(and) help to support revitalization of priority areas, including the commercial corridors that are the focus of the mayor’s INVEST South/West initiative,” the mayor’s office says.

Lightfoot's office says she will submit the nomination this month to the City Council.
