    Jonathan Holloway will leave to become the first black president of the university in July.

    Northwestern University is losing its provost, Jonathan Holloway, to Rutgers University, where he will become that school’s first black president.

    79彩票注册网址Rutgers said in a yesterday that its board of governors approved the appointment, with Holloway scheduled to start in the new role in July. He has been in the Northwestern  since July 2017.

    Holloway, 52, was previously the dean of Yale College before arriving at Northwestern and had been a professor of history and African American studies at Yale University, where he earlier earned his doctorate.

    Northwestern acknowledged the exit in a statement on its website, but a spokesman for the school declined to comment on the search for Holloway’s successor.

    However, in a statement to the university’s paper, Northwestern President Morton Schapiro said “more details on the plan for finding Northwestern’s next provost will be shared in the next few days,” the Daily Northwestern .

    One high-profile Chicagoan who has connections to both schools was instrumental in the Rutgers hiring. Former Deputy Mayor of Chicago Mark Angelson chairs the Rutgers board of governors and headed the presidential search committee that tapped Holloway. Angelson is also a life trustee at Northwestern. He wasn’t immediately available for comment.

    Holloway was the target of at Yale in 2016 related to racial issues on campus before he left for Northwestern.
