In addition to her focus on the humanity of the marginalized, playwright Lynn Nottage has a cottage industry of collecting awards, including a MacArthur "genius" grant and Pulitzers for her plays "Ruined" and "Sweat." She'd won a handful earlier, but the hardware amassment ratcheted up after her 2003 play about an African American seamstress in 1905 New York, based on Nottage's own great-grandmother. The play, produced around the country about as often as people change underwear, hasn't been seen in the Chicago area for five years.
